Most startup founders* now use ChatGPT—but not all get the same results.

Why? Because what and HOW you ask is just as important as the tool you’re using.

Think of ChatGPT like a talented intern: if you give them vague instructions, you’ll get vague work back. But if you give them clear context, a role, and a format, they’ll surprise you with quality results you can actually use. Specifically true with OpenAI's ChatGPT 5 updates!

That’s where prompt frameworks come in. These are simple formulas that guide how you structure your requests so the AI can deliver sharper, more relevant answers.

Why Prompt Frameworks Matter for Founders

  • Clarity = Faster Results: Less time spent fixing or re-running prompts.

  • Structure = Better Output: Your responses are easier to use in real work.

  • Consistency = Confidence: You can reuse the same framework for repeatable success.

Three Starter Frameworks

1. CRAFT (Context, Role, Action, Format, Tone) - a V2V favorite!

Best for: Writing content, marketing posts, or creative copy.

Example Prompt:

  • Context: I run a small bakery and we’re doing a donut sale.

  • Role: Act as a social media manager.

  • Action: Write an Instagram caption.

  • Format: Give me 3 short options in a bullet list.

  • Tone: Playful and fun with emojis.

Result: Ready-to-post captions that fit the brand voice.

2. RACE (Role, Action, Context, Expectation)

Best for: Strategy, planning, or bigger-picture thinking.

Example Prompt: “You are a startup advisor (Role). Write a one-page plan (Action) for testing a new subscription box idea (Context). The plan should include a target customer, a 2-week test plan, and a metric for success (Expectation).”

Result: A practical mini-strategy you can use right away.

3. PAR (Problem, Action, Result)

Best for: Diagnosing issues and troubleshooting.

Example Prompt:

  • Problem: My email open rates have dropped 40%.

  • Action: Suggest reasons why this may have happened.

  • Result: Rank the solutions from easiest to hardest to implement.

Result: Actionable next steps instead of random advice.
